A 30 Day Challenge

To get and keep people motivated, Iowa Avenue is starting a new challenge every month.

I’m challenging each and everyone one of you to come up with one habit in your life you’d like to change.

There has been much written about the idea of being able to change a habit in 30 days. Although in degrees and kind, some habits are definitely more challenging to change in a short amount of time than others. But as the old axiom goes—No Change No Gain.

Why am I putting forth 1 change in your habit as a challenge?

Because most people are a little bit competitive, and some are a lot. A challenge puts making changes into a game format, making it fun. People are more likely to succeed when creating a contest out of it, even if they’re the only one participating.

To make it easier to keep track of your progress and to provide a place for discussion, I’m starting a new group called May Challenge. This is not as much about setting long term goals, although having definite objectives is integral with pursuing a healthy lifestyle.

It’s about choosing one habit you’d want to adopt, or one habit you’d like to improve, or even one habit you’d like to do away with–the choice is totally yours. What’s important, of course, is that this 30 May Challenge gets you into the frame of mind to learn how to implement a change and to stick with it.

The May Challenge

The May Challenge group will be a place where we will be able discuss our mutual trials and tribulations and for our friends to help us be accountable. We are non-judgmental but rather we offer support, motivation and advice. You have my support, Ask the Dietitian’s, and the entire Iowa Avenue membership.

Changing a habit isn’t easy—either is creating a new habit for that matter– so good days and bad days are to be expected.

Iowa Avenue is a place that was designed for its members and with that in mind for this 30 Day May Challenge you are in a safe place to talk about every aspect of what’s going on with you as you pursue changing one habit–what you did wrong and what you did right.

By talking about your experiences you’ll not only help yourself, but help others. As Dale Carnegie put it, “The successful man will profit from his mistakes and try again in a different way.”

So think of a habit you’d like to change and challenge yourself to succeed, because

It’s about a healthy lifestyle!

Hi Lisa. Great minds must think a like because I am also encouraging readers on my blog to join a similar change a habit experiment. The May Challenge Group is a wonderful idea because having accountability to others is a very powerful tool. How do people join this group?
